ORCHARD VILLA Skiathos ...
... nestles in a half-acre hillside olive-grove, amongst several villas scattered across the Katsarou ridge overlooking the sandy beaches below, with stunning panoramic views over Skiathos Bay. It's only 10 mins drive to Skiathos village and harbour, with tavernas, cafes, bars, and shops - and 10-25 mins to the many beaches.
There's a shared gated entrance and the whole setting is very peaceful and quiet. It is a traditional Greek island villa with blue shutters, red-tiled roofs, and its own roof-terrace. There’s a large cool flag-stoned living room, split-level to the winter log fireplace and sofa, four air-conditioned bedrooms with exposed timber beams and roof, and a fully-equipped open-plan kitchen, with an English ‘pub' bar and stools. You can sleep 2 - 8 in cosy bedrooms, with an en-suite wet room and two shower rooms. The villa's pretty pool is fenced and gated, and set into the terraced garden with beautiful views across the bay to the nearby islands.

Ceramic-hob cooker and hood with fan oven, microwave, toaster, electric kettle, filter coffee, two fridges with small freezer compartments, double sink, dishwasher.
And there’s a washing machine, ironing board, steam iron, and large ‘umbrella’ clothes dryer in garden.

4 air-conditioned bedrooms sleep up to 8 adults (1 double, 3 twins). The master-bedroom wing (l. of fireplace) has 1 double and an en-suite wet room with double vasque vanity unit and w-c; the 3 twin-bedroom wing (r. of fireplace) has 2 shower-rooms each with a small vanity unit and w-c.

The villa is quiet and not overlooked; fenced grounds and a drive with remote-control gates keep out curious tourists!
The pool is built into the hillside with its own small terrace, slate drinks table. and bench. Level access is by two steps down to a safety gate and in-pool steps. The pool is 8 x 5m, and 1.2m deep. Safe, but hardly Olympic! More for a lazy dip and drinks on the terrace, enjoying the panoramic "7-island" view over Skiathos bay.
There's a large un-overlooked sunbathing roof terrace, with its own view down the wooded Kechria valley to the sea on the north side of the island.

The rental is a short-term lease of a non-serviced property, but by making a booking at the 'chart price' requests and includes provision of:
Weekly bed- and bath-linen; cleaning etc. products; end-cleaning; pool miantenance; gardening; equipment breakdown repair; welcome pack.

Very good 3/4/5G signal for mobiles as hot-spot for your tablet or laptop, and WiFi at most tavernas, bars, and cafes. (no fixed-line router in villa)

Suitability notes

Orchard Villa is on one floor (but split-level with 2 steps), with near-level car access by 3 low steps to the front door. The courtyard and view are across a low door-step from the lounge, then three shallow wide steps to the main sun-terrace, and a gentle path under a pergola with a few low steps to the pool terrace. Inside, a small travelling wheel-chair should be practical; please call to check.

And 'insider' tip: always check a villa's access before you book, even if no mobility issues. The front door of many villas directly above the beaches can be a fair way from your car, or by steep narrow concrete stairs.

About Skiathos

About SKIATHOS island ...

Picturesque Skiathos village and harbour has a paved traffic-free main street and back lanes, and the taverna-lined 'old harbour' saw the 'arrival of the fathers' in "Mamma Mia" (the wedding was in Agios Ioannis church on nearby Skopelos).
(for full details, and Travel to Skiathos - visit

Skiathos has dozens of shops, tavernas, and all services within 10 mns drive, and literally scores of mostly sandy beaches, all within 5-25 mins of the villa (bar a few favourite coves needing a water-taxi, or a scramble down from the road).
My favourite eight beaches and twenty-four tavernas are all in Part 2 of the "Villa Guest Guide" I send you, with plenty of ideas to discover more of your own.

The dozen or so main beaches have one or more tavernas and bars, most with water-sports such as water skiing; parascending; rides on inflatables towed by speed-boats; dinghy sailing; canoes or pedalos; windsurfing; SCUBA diving (booked in village).
Orchard Villa is just above two of them(5 mins drive) , 'Vassilias Beach' and 'Achladies Beach'.

For walks and horse-riding, there’s plenty of pine-forest cover with woodland paths and tracks, wild flowers, and a couple of streamlets running all summer from high-level springs. Skiathos rarely suffers the extreme heat of Crete, Rhodes and Cyprus, or the often continuous meltemi winds that can blast the Cyclades islands and Crete... and most beaches are sandy, not the limestone shingle the holiday brochures don't tell you are a feature of so many other islands!

Getting Around - my timings all assume you have a hire car. I can thoroughly recommend my pal Nicos Pappas / Victoria Car Hire (usual disclaimers), who knows the villas well and always goes the extra mile for my guests.
But if you prefer to spend most of the time at your villa, there are reliable radio-taxis or the bus, water-taxis to the beaches and village, and ferries for local island or mainland excursions.
